Each route that sends messages from a phone number can have a contact card (also known as a vCard), containing your organization's name, the route's phone number, and an optional photo such as your logo. When you attach the contact card to a message, recipients can save your number to their phone's contacts with a single tap, so they see your name instead of an unfamiliar number when you message them.
Setting Up a Route's Contact Card
To view or edit a route's contact card, click Routes in the left navigation menu, click the route, then click Edit Settings and find the Contact Card section.
Contact cards are turned on by default, using your organization's name as the contact name. To turn a route's contact card on or off, use the toggle "Create a sharable contact card that customers can save", then click Save.
To change the contact card, click the edit icon on the card. In the Edit contact card dialog, you can set:
- Photo – an image shown with the contact on the recipient's phone. We recommend using your logo. Photos can be JPEG or PNG images up to 1 MB.
- Contact Name – the name the contact will be saved as, such as your organization's name (up to 127 characters).
- Phone Number – always the route's own phone number, which can't be changed here.
- Version – the vCard format version. Version 3.0 works with the most phones; only use 4.0 if your recipients' devices require it.
When you click Save in the dialog, the changes are saved to the route, and apply to every message that includes its contact card, including messages that are already scheduled.
To download the contact card as a .vcf file, for example to share it on your website or in an email, click Download.
Contact cards are only available for routes that can send messages and whose sender is a regular phone number. They aren't available for routes that send messages from an alphanumeric sender ID or other non-phone address. If a route is shared with your project from another project, its contact card is managed in the project that shares the route.
Attaching a Contact Card to a Message
To attach a contact card to a message, click the contact card icon ("Attach contact card") in the toolbar below the message. You can attach a contact card when sending a message from the Send Message dialog or a conversation, and in campaigns, message templates, and service actions that send or reply with a message.
The contact card is added when the message is sent, using the contact card of the route that actually sends the message. If you send messages via a custom route that contains multiple basic routes, each recipient receives the contact card of the basic route that sent their message. If that route doesn't have its contact card turned on, or doesn't support contact cards, the message is sent without one.
The contact card counts as one of the message's attachments, and each message can include only one contact card. On routes that can send media attachments directly, such as WhatsApp, the contact card is sent as a file that recipients can tap to save. On routes that can't, such as SMS, the message includes a link to the contact card instead.
Using the REST API
When sending a message via the REST API, you can attach the sending route's contact card by including {"type": "route_vcard"} in the media parameter, for example media: [{"type": "route_vcard"}]. Each route's contact card settings can be retrieved and updated using the vcard property of the Phone object.
