The AI Operator is an AI assistant built into the Telerivet web app. Describe what you want in plain language, and the AI Operator can answer questions, look up and analyze your data, and set things up for you, such as drafting messages and campaigns, building automated services, and organizing your contacts.
The AI Operator works within your current project, and can only do what your own Telerivet account has permission to do.
What the AI Operator Can Do
Here are some examples of what you can ask the AI Operator to do:
- Write and send messages – "Draft a friendly appointment reminder that greets each contact by name"
- Create campaigns – "Send a series of welcome messages to new subscribers 1, 3, and 7 days after they sign up"
- Build automated services – "When someone texts JOIN, ask for their name and email address and save them to their contact" or "Create a poll that asks customers to rate us from 0 to 10"
- Organize contacts – "Create a group of contacts in Nairobi who have replied in the last 30 days", "Add a custom field for each contact's preferred language", or "Import the contacts in this file"
- Analyze your data – "Summarize this project's messaging over the last 30 days" or "Compare how my routes are performing"
- Troubleshoot problems – "Why did this message fail?" or "Check my recent service logs for errors"
- Answer questions – "What kind of route should I add for sending SMS in Kenya?", "Explain my recent charges", or "How do webhooks work?"
The AI Operator can create services using Custom Actions, polls, auto-replies, and the Cloud Script API, including writing JavaScript code for you.
For example, here the AI Operator creates a poll that asks customers to rate you from 0 to 10, filling in the poll editor for you to review before saving:
Opening the AI Operator
There are several ways to open the AI Operator:
- Click AI Operator in the left navigation menu.
- On the Messages page, click New Message > Create with AI. The Campaigns and Dashboard pages have a similar Create with AI option.
- Type a request into the Ask or build anything box at the top of the Add Service and New Campaign pages.
- When adding a service, click Generate with AI on the type of service you want to create.
- When writing a message, click the
(Write with AI) icon in the toolbar below the message box to have the AI Operator draft or rewrite it.
On wide screens, the AI Operator opens in a panel next to the page you're viewing, and stays open as you move between pages. It can see which page you're viewing, so you can ask questions like "Explain this service" or "What happened to this message?" without needing to say which service or message you mean. On smaller screens, it opens in a modal dialog on top of the current page.
To give a conversation more room, click the (Open full-page view) icon at the top of the panel. Clicking AI Operator in the left navigation menu also opens the AI Operator in the full-page view, where you can see your recent chats. In the full-page view, the AI Operator can't see or update the page you were working on, so it can't draft content on that page. To have the AI Operator fill in a message, campaign, or service for you to review, use the panel next to the page instead.
When you open the AI Operator, it suggests a few prompts based on the page you're viewing. You can click a suggestion, or type your own request.
On the Add Service page, you can describe the service you want, click one of the suggested examples, or click Generate with AI on a particular type of service:
Reviewing the AI Operator's Work
The AI Operator is designed to keep you in control:
-
Drafts – When you ask the AI Operator to create a message, campaign, or service, it usually fills in the form on the page for you instead of saving it directly. Nothing is saved or sent until you review the draft and click the page's button to save or send it (such as Send or Done). You can also click Test Service to test a drafted service before saving it. For example, after the AI Operator drafts a message, it waits for you to review the message and click Send:
-
Approvals – The AI Operator asks for your approval before sending messages, triggering services, or deleting data. It shows what it wants to do, and you can click Approve or Cancel:
- Message Review – If Message Review is enabled for your project, messages sent by the AI Operator follow the same review rules as messages sent by people on your team. If a message needs review, the AI Operator shows the pending message, and users who can review messages can approve, edit, or delete it directly from the chat.
- Permissions – The AI Operator acts on your behalf, so it can never do more than your own Telerivet account has permission to do.
The AI Operator can make mistakes, so double-check its responses and drafts before relying on them.
Attaching Files
Click the attachment button to attach files to your request, such as a CSV file of contacts to import, or a screenshot of an error message. You can attach up to 5 files per message, up to 5 MB each. Supported file types include images (JPG, PNG, GIF, and WebP) and text files (CSV, TSV, TXT, JSON, and XML).
Managing Conversations
Each conversation with the AI Operator is saved, so you can return to it later from the list of recent chats. Click New chat to start a new conversation.
The list of recent chats is specific to the project you are currently viewing, and only shows conversations that you started yourself. To see conversations you started in another project, switch to that project using the project menu at the top of the left navigation menu. Conversations started by other users in the same project are not shown in your list. The list also includes conversations you started on organization-level pages that aren't part of any project, such as the Billing page.
The AI Operator works best when each conversation focuses on one topic. If a conversation gets long, or you change to an unrelated topic, the AI Operator may suggest continuing in a new conversation.
AI Operator Settings
Organization administrators can control how the AI Operator is used in their organization. In the left navigation menu, click Account > AI Operator, or click Operator settings at the top of the AI Operator's full-page view. The AI Operator Settings page provides these options:
-
Allowed actions – For each type of action, choose whether the AI Operator can perform it on its own (Allowed), must ask the user first (Require approval), or can't perform it at all (Not allowed). Some options aren't available for every type of action. For example, the AI Operator always asks for approval before sending messages or deleting data. The types of actions are:
- Reading data: Allowed (default) or Not allowed
- Sending messages and triggering services: Require approval (default) or Not allowed
- Creating and updating data: Allowed (default), Require approval, or Not allowed
- Deleting data: Require approval (default) or Not allowed
- Drafting content on the page the user is viewing: Allowed (default) or Not allowed
- Making external web requests: Require approval (default) or Not allowed
- Allowed permissions – The types of data and actions the AI Operator can access on users' behalf. Unchecking a permission blocks the AI Operator from using it, even for users who have that permission.
- Who can use the AI Operator – Which users in the organization can open and use the AI Operator. To turn off the AI Operator for everyone, select Nobody (disable AI Operator).
Users must verify their email address before they can use the AI Operator.
