Creating Opt-In / Opt-Out Keywords

In Telerivet, an Opt-In / Opt-Out Keywords service lets your contacts opt-in via text message by sending a keyword like "START", and opt-out by sending a keyword like "STOP".

Subscribers will be added to a group on your Contacts page, so you can easily send text messages to all subscribers. Contacts that unsubscribe will be removed from the group of subscribers and also added to a group of unsubscribers so that you can easily track opt-outs.

To create an Opt-In / Opt-Out Keywords service, go to the Services page and add a new service, then click "Opt-In / Opt-Out Keywords". Then simply fill in the keywords, auto-replies, and the names of the groups to use.

By default, Telerivet also will store the date and time when a contact subscribes in a custom contact field called "Subscribe Date", and the date and time when a contact unsubscribes in a custom contact field called "Unsubscribe Date". These fields can be customized under "Advanced settings".

Based on your settings, Telerivet will generate the actions to handle incoming messages, which are displayed as a flowchart on your Services page:



If you need to modify these actions, edit the service and click "Customize Actions", which will let you edit the flowchart directly.

Scheduling Messages After a Contact Subscribes

Telerivet's Campaigns feature makes it easy to schedule a series of messages after a contact subscribes, such as "drip" marketing campaigns.

When a Subscription Time Field is configured for the Opt-In / Opt-Out Keywords service, you can schedule one or more messages relative to that date using a Relative Campaign.

On the Campaigns page, click New Campaign, then click Relative Campaign.

For the To field, select the Subscribers group.

Then, define the series of messages you want to send, for example:

Contacts will automatically receive your series of scheduled messages after they text your keyword to subscribe. In addition, contacts will automatically stop receiving your series of scheduled messages if they text your keyword to unsubscribe.

You can also edit these messages at any time from the Campaigns page.
