For multiple-choice questions, Telerivet automatically computes statistics and displays them in a bar graph. However, for open-ended questions, Telerivet does not automatically compute statistics, as shown for the example question below:
To allow Telerivet to display a bar graph for open-ended questions, you can manually assign a "code" to each open-ended response. First, click on the number of responses for your poll question to see the table of responses:
First, you'll need to update the responses table to have another field to store your manually entered response codes. Click More > Manage fields, then click Add new field, and choose a name for the field where you will store the response codes:
In order for Telerivet to automatically display a bar chart of coded results, the field's variable name must be the question ID followed by _code, for example "q1_code". If you want to limit the codes that can be entered, you can select Dropdown or Radio Buttons as the field type.
After adding a field to store a code for the open-ended response, return to the Responses table. In order to see the values for your "code" field, click the + icon.
For any response you want to assign a code to, click the blank cell to open an edit dialog, then enter the code to assign to that response, as shown below:
You can also use the same process to assign codes to "none of the above" multiple-choice responses that didn't match any of your choices, so that they show up correctly in your statistics. (For multiple-choice questions, it is not necessary to manually add a "code" field since Telerivet will automatically create one.)
After you assign codes to responses, Telerivet will automatically compute percentages for each code and display them in your poll results:
